Our Class Ambassadors do a lot to help us stay connected with our alumni. But how well do you know them? We asked Alexander Arnold ’23 a series of questions to find out more about him – his likes, dislikes, quirks, and everything in between.
What have you been up to since you left CIS?
I’ve just graduated! However, this means that I’m in the freest summer of my life, so I’ve been knocking out some sidequests. I’ve mainly been exploring Hong Kong, photography, spending some time with friends playing basketball, volleyball, watching movies, and so on.
Have you travelled anywhere interesting lately?
I haven’t left Hong Kong since before COVID but this summer I’m excited to visit Europe! Along with two other friends, we’ll hop our way from Budapest to Milan over three weeks.
How do you prefer to start your day?
I like to start my day by cracking my back. It’s always really tight so that’s a great moment of relief that gets me ready to take on the day ahead.
What advice would you give to your teenage self?
Don’t take IB chemistry HL.
What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Funny, quick, slow
What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
Probably off somewhere on a photography day trip. I’m addicted to film so I take every chance I can to do a shoot.
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
The ability to turn invisible, I can go anywhere I want and do anything I want and nobody can stop me.
If you could only have three apps on your smartphone, which would you pick?
Spotify, Reddit, and Instagram. Actually somewhat of a true story because my phone has so little space that I only have like 7 apps.
What’s your fondest memory of CIS?
Year 5, students strike in the cafeteria because they ran out of waffle fries.
What’s your worst memory of CIS?
Tripping on the stairs and hurting my knee because I was rushing to the bathroom
What’s your favourite colour and why?
Orange. I don’t know why, but I’ve always been loyal to orange since I was a child. It just stands out to me and my eyes can rest on it.
What’s your worst memory of CIS?
In Year 9 CEP in Yangshuo, on the third day, I slipped and had a concussion, which ruled me out of many of the activities for the rest of the trip. A few days later I caught flu when our entire year had an outbreak and I ended up being sent home early.
If you can change one thing about CIS, what would it be?
I’m not really down for the current atmosphere that we have. Everything feels so grey and corporate. I want to return to the old maroon/red theme we had, it all felt so much warmer.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Honestly, no clue.
What’s your favourite snack?
Dried cranberries are fuel.
What songs take you back to your teen years?
Any classic by The Chainsmokers or Coldplay.
