Career Development Corner with Carrie Seto #2 (24 May 2024)

Graduation is a significant milestone. This year, we are privileged to have Alex Tancock ’96 deliver an insightful commencement speech. Thank you, Alex, for impressing on our graduates the importance of “working hard, always going forward, and never giving up in the face of setbacks”.

Matthew McConaughey, in his memorable address, shared a gem that resonates deeply: “Prioritize who you are, who you want to be, and don’t spend time with anything that antagonizes your character. Don’t drink the Kool-Aid. It tastes sweet, but you’ll get cavities tomorrow. Life is not a popularity contest. Be brave. Take the hill. But first, answer that question: What’s my hill?”

Denzel Washington’s best quote from his commencement speech: “So the question is, what are you going to do with what you have? I’m not talking about how much you have. Some of you are business majors. Some of you were theologians, nurses, sociologists. Some of you have money. Some of you have patience. Some of you have kindness. Some of you have love. Some of you have the gift of long-suffering. Whatever it is, whatever your gift is, what are you going to do with what you have?”

So as the graduates officially join our Alumni community, remember that your journey is uniquely yours. May your hills be grand and your character unwavering. Stay curious, stay bold and keep climbing!
