Angus Yiu ’22

Our Class Ambassadors do a lot to help us stay connected with our alumni. But how well do you know them? We asked Angus Yiu ’22 a series of questions to find out more about him – his likes, dislikes, quirks, and everything in between.

How do you prefer to start your day?

I like to start with a cup of green tea, some calm music in the background, and a 30-minute meditation session. It helps get my mind at peace with the day ahead and the challenges I’m going to face throughout the day.

If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be?

Physics and math have always been my passion, but I feel like working hard towards becoming an expert in that field is what makes it fun, so I’ll go for something more bizarre, like making people happy. That is something I always wish to do, because it makes me happy too.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Welp, just have more fun and don’t take assessments TOO seriously (although still work hard and try to do well). Feels like now I can’t really catch a break with these assignments.

What three words would your friends use to describe you?

Comedy, leader, confident.

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

Either studying for an upcoming test (sigh~), playing basketball, hanging out with friends, or in my bed watching Youtube.

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

Teleportation.

If you could only have three apps on your smartphone, which would you pick?

Spotify, Whatsapp, Instagram/Clash Royale.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully hosting many CIS alumni events a year!!! (also probably grad school or out in the field blasting tunnels and building stuff)

What’s your fondest memory of CIS?

So many I can’t count them, but a very fond one is in Hangzhou when my dorm played pranks on each other. (without going into too much detail)(haha)

What’s your favourite colour?

Purple, because it symbolises royalty, but also is a deep colour, so it’s soothing, calming, and gives me a sense of stability. It’s not flashy either, a modest colour with high status. I like that.

What’s your worst memory of CIS?

I got a 6 in Math. Need. I. Say. More.

If you can change one thing about CIS, what would it be?

I suppose the university congratulating culture is a little bit toxic here, so I would probably make it more positive in general, where people are more genuine and less competitive.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully still doing something creative!

What’s your favourite snack?

Mami Noodles.

What songs take you back to your teen years?

Taylor Swift’s old songs like “I knew you were trouble”
Ariana Grande’s “Bang Bang”
Alan Walker’s “Faded”
Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive”
the list goes on…….
