John Lui ’97

Our Class Ambassadors do a lot to help us stay connected with our alumni. But how well do you know them? We asked John Lui ’97 a series of questions to find out more about him – his likes, dislikes, quirks, and everything in between.

What have you been up to since you left CIS?

Finished my schooling in University of Toronto and moved back to HK to develop my career in Brand Management. Almost 2 decades on, I now manage an International F&B Brand in over 9 markets across Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Have you travelled anywhere interesting lately?

Covid has restricted my travels to only in HK, but I have enjoyed taking an early morning walk with my father (wife and some friends) every Sunday. 

How do you prefer to start your day?

Doing some breathing exercises to get my mind ready and greet my wife and kids in the morning. 

If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be?

An expert in world issues to try and do my part in dealing with all our crisis today.

What advice would you give to your teenage self?

Take advantage of what you’ve been given and gain all the exposure you can get!

What three words would your friends use to describe you?

Talkative, Empathetic, Good Counsel.

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

Either trying to dig into my vinyl hobby or assuming driver duty for my kids and family.

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

The ability to multi-task and compute infinitely.

If you could only have three apps on your smartphone, which would you pick?

Whatsapp, Spotify, Chrome

What’s your fondest memory of CIS?

All my friends and the laughter we shared

What’s your favorite color and why?

Green, because it always seems to bring me a sense of calm. Not to mention it easily matches well with other colors as well. 

If you can change one thing about CIS, what would it be?

The option to learn Spanish

What’s your worst memory of CIS?

The poorly ventilated gym changing room. 

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Being able to teach and touch more lives around me.

What’s your favorite snack?

Calbee chips
